Just For Men - Gynecomastia
Surgery For Gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is a medical term that comes from the Greek words for "woman-like breasts." Though rarely talked about, gynecomastia is actually quite common. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 20 percent of men, although probably more are have a mild form of the condition. Gynecomastia may affect only one breast or both, results in a rounded or pointed shape to the male chest, which causes it to look more like a female breast.
The cause of gynecomastia is unknown in the vast majority of case, however certain
drugs and medical problems have been linked with male breast overdevelopment.
Cannabis containing compounds such as Marinol or marijuana can cause gynecomastia, as
well as anabolic steroids. Obesity can also accentuate the appearance of the male
breast.
For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, gynecomastia surgery can
help. The most common procedure is ultrasonic liposuction, which removes fat and the
firmer glandular tissue from the breasts through small and hidden incisions. In more
extreme cases of gynecomastia, excess skin will be removed, which may leave more
noticeable scars. The goal of all surgery is to create a masculine appearing chest
that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured.
Liposuction
Plastic surgery is an option for many men today, and newer procedures are being
developed every year to help keep men on the cutting
edge of looking good.
Liposuction for men is almost always focused on removing excess fat around the
hips, abdomen and waist (commonly called the love
handles spare tire.) Men benefit from
using the ultrasonic technique, which breaks down the tougher fat and tissues in this
area, resulting
Abdominal Etching
Abdominal etching can use standard and ultrasonic techniques to give the
appearance of a more sculpted abdomen. This can often be achieved by creating a
six pack (also called tendinous inscriptions) or a
midline indention. Fat removal from the abdomen or flanks can also be done at the
same time to accentuate the result.
The surgery is done as an outpatient under either local or general anesthesia.
Most incisions can easily be hidden in the natural body creases of the body, leaving
very small scars. As with all liposuction procedures, the procedure does not
substitute for weight loss and individuals near to their ideal weight will have the
best liposuction results.
