Arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm. This can produce a trimmer appearance and aid in the fit of clothing. Symptoms of skin irritation can also be relieved by an arm lift.
Patients who want to tighten the arm skin may benefit from liposuction alone or along with an arm lift. Sometimes, a short-scar arm lift may also be done, depending on the amount of excess skin. Short-scar arm lift is usually reserved for patients who only have excess skin near the armpit area.
The scars from an arm lift are on the back of the arms, and are partially hidden in almost all social situations. As with any surgery that produces visible scars, the scars from brachioplasty is a good tradeoff for patients troubled by large amounts of excess arm skin.
